Meet Ashana
Ashana Chand is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor supervised by Marisa Ronquillo Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #122594) based in Sacramento California.
Hi, I’m Ashana. I believe therapy should be a safe and supportive space where you feel truly seen, understood, and empowered. My passion lies in walking alongside young adults and families as they navigate the often overwhelming seasons of life — whether it’s managing anxiety, adjusting to big life transitions, exploring identity, or working through relationship struggles.
Many of the clients I work with come to therapy feeling stuck, burnt out, or weighed down by expectations — from themselves, family, or culture. My goal is to help you sort through these pressures with compassion and curiosity, while equipping you with tools to move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
I also deeply value family work. Families can carry stressors, communication difficulties, and generational patterns that feel hard to break. I help families create space for honest conversations, deepen connection, and develop healthier ways of relating. For parents, I provide support in navigating blended families, parenting challenges, or cultural dynamics that may impact family life.
My Background
My path into the therapy world began long before I earned my degree. I started out working in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), first as an administrative support staff and later as a group facilitator. Even in those early roles, I found myself drawn to the way people heal through connection, vulnerability, and support. I witnessed firsthand how courageously clients showed up to work through anxiety, depression, and overwhelming life stressors — and those experiences inspired me to pursue a career where I could walk alongside people more directly in their growth.
I went on to earn my Master’s in Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Pacific. I am currently continuing my education in a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program, where I am expanding my clinical skills and deepening my understanding of psychological research and practice.
Over time, I’ve worked with young adults, parents, and families navigating everything from anxiety and identity exploration to communication struggles and generational challenges. Each experience has reinforced my belief that while no two journeys are the same, every person has the potential for healing and resilience when given the right space and support.
Now, as part of Insightful Roots Therapy, I bring together my professional training and my passion for creating spaces where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered. My goal is to walk alongside you as you untangle challenges, build resilience, and move toward a life that feels more connected, authentic, and fulfilling.

I strive to create a warm, supportive space where you can bring your full self — your strengths, your challenges, and everything in between — without fear of judgment. My goal is for you to feel truly seen, understood, and valued in our work together.
In sessions, we’ll explore your experiences, the patterns that influence your thoughts and behaviors, and the ways your past and present shape your current challenges. Alongside reflection, I provide practical tools you can apply in daily life — whether that’s coping strategies for anxiety, skills for managing relationships, or mindfulness practices for grounding and self-awareness.
I believe therapy can be both thoughtful and dynamic. Some sessions may focus on structured exercises or action steps, while others allow space for deeper reflection and processing. Humor, curiosity, and connection are also part of the process — when appropriate, we’ll make room for laughter and lightness, too.
Ultimately, my approach is collaborative and tailored to your needs. I’m here to guide, support, and empower you as you work toward building resilience, confidence, and meaningful change in your life.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
My Approach
My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and tailored to each person or family I work with. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices, along with psychodynamic insights to help us understand the roots of your challenges. Above all, I bring compassion, authenticity, and a genuine respect for your lived experience.
I also prioritize cultural awareness and identity exploration. I strive to create a space where every part of who you are is welcomed and valued — whether that’s culture, heritage, faith, or personal identity. I believe these aspects of ourselves hold an important role in healing and growth.
Therapeutic influences in my work include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — identifying and reshaping unhelpful thought patterns to support meaningful behavior change
Mindfulness-Based Approaches — cultivating present-moment awareness, self-compassion, and stress reduction
Psychodynamic Insights — exploring underlying patterns and unconscious influences that shape thoughts, feelings, and relationships
Family Systems Theory — understanding relational dynamics within families to support communication, connection, and growth
Narrative Therapy — gently examining and reframing the stories we tell about ourselves to foster empowerment and resilience
Who I Work Best With:
Young Adults (18–30s): navigating transitions like college, career, independence, or new relationships; managing anxiety, stress, and overwhelm; building self-esteem and clarifying identity; strengthening boundaries.
Families & Parents: improving communication, working through cultural or generational stressors, and adjusting to change (such as blended families, parenting challenges, or major life transitions).
I feel especially drawn to supporting clients during periods of uncertainty and transition, helping individuals and families strengthen self-worth, resilience, and confidence.
