(Virtual sessions Across California)

Aoife Quinn Tessman, APCC #18810

Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #18810) supervised by Marisa Ronquillo Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #122594)

If you’re someone who seems “put together” on the outside but feels overwhelmed, anxious, or out of control underneath; you’re not alone.

Maybe you’ve found ways to cope that work in the moment… but don’t actually leave you feeling better long-term.

You might feel stuck in cycles with food, substances, relationships, or your own thoughts — trying to find relief, but ending up right back where you started.

Therapy with me is a space to slow things down and understand what’s really going on beneath the surface, so you can build more sustainable ways of coping and start to feel more grounded in your life.

Aoife’s rate is $150 per session.

I Work Best With Adults Who:

  • feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally up and down

  • use coping strategies that don’t always feel aligned

    • food, substances, avoidance, control

  • struggle with burnout, stress, or feeling like they’re always “pushing through”

  • have a hard time slowing down or sitting with emotions

  • feel disconnected from themselves or unsure how they actually feel

  • experience cycles of shame, self-criticism, or feeling “not enough”

  • want deeper change, not just short-term coping tools

You don’t need to have everything figured out to start.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and non-judgmental.

I’m not here to take away your coping strategies, I’m here to understand them with you. Together, we’ll explore what they’ve been helping you manage and build new ways to support yourself that actually feel sustainable.

In sessions, we’ll:

  • explore the patterns behind your anxiety, coping, or emotional overwhelm

  • understand how past experiences are shaping your current reactions

  • build practical tools to regulate your emotions and feel more steady

  • develop a stronger sense of self-trust and internal stability

I also integrate EMDR therapy when appropriate to help process experiences that feel “stuck” and continue to impact how you feel day-to-day.

My Approach

My work integrates evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, EMDR and mindfulness with deeper insight-oriented therapy.

I focus on helping you:

  • feel more emotionally regulated

  • understand the “why” behind your patterns

  • build healthier coping strategies

  • reduce shame and increase self-compassion

  • feel more grounded and in control of your choices

I’m especially mindful of how early experiences, high expectations, and relational dynamics can shape the way we cope.

My Background

My path into therapy began in higher levels of care, where I worked closely with individuals navigating substance use, eating disorders, and co-occurring mental health challenges.

That experience shaped my approach to therapy; understanding that many coping patterns develop for a reason, and that real change comes from both skill-building and addressing the underlying experiences driving those patterns.

I’ve worked with clients across different stages of healing and bring a trauma-informed lens into all of my work.

As part of Insightful Roots Therapy, I’m committed to creating a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported in making meaningful, lasting changes.
